Discussion has started on the FC United forum about getting from downtown to the new ground.
I've seen this for past seasons at the old ground: www.dcfcfc.com/so-youre-coming-with-us/ Roughly 45 minutes before game time, the supporters gather in the parking lot at Harry’s, get a pep talk from the lead “capo” (chant leader) known as “Sergeant Scary” and march the 2.5 blocks to Cass Tech, with drums, flags, chanting and smoke bombs. There is profanity in the pep talk. The march is disorganized and moves slowly enough for kids. Once the march arrives at Cass Tech, the supporters gather in a circle outside the stadium and do one more profane chant outside the opponents’ locker room before lining up to enter.
With the new ground being out of town a bit how is everyone expecting to get up there on a matchday? Will there be anything going on downtown first or will everyone just travel independently to meet up at the new ground?
The question is being asked on the FC United forum if we should organise a coach ourselves from downtown to the match.
Any thoughts/ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Good questions. We're working on a game day info page right now on the Northern Guard Supporters page ( noonelikes.us). The area around DCFC's new ground is about a 15 minute drive from downtown Detroit. City supporters will all go right to the ground (and surrounding bars) and gather there, rather than gathering downtown and traveling to the ground together. If you have a rental car, it's a quick drive. You can also take a cab (which are perfectly safe here) or Uber/Lyft. Fair warning, since it's a holiday weekend here in the states and there is a very large music festival going on that weekend, beware of the Uber surge prices. If you're planning to come up to Hamtramck (Ham-tram-ick) for the game, you can join many DCFC supporters at the Fowling Warehouse. Because the march is a little further now, and because the new stadium will be selling beer, we plan to leave a little bit earlier for the march than we used to. We plan to begin the march a little over an hour before the match. Like I said, there will be an electronic music festival ( Movement) going on downtown that weekend, but no soccer-related events. That all will be happening in Hamtramck. We are really looking forward to hosting you guys!

you can join many DCFC supporters at the Fowling Warehouse. Oh please do, I want to chuckle at the English folks trying to throw an American football. (Fowling involves throwing an American football at bowling pins to knock them down. Football+bowling=fowling.)

thanks Punch. that's really helpful. one last question for now. for getting from the airport to downtown/the MotorCity Casino would RideSkoot be recommended? it seems to be that or a cab through Metro Airport? what's usually the best bet? thanks again.

I'll be honest, I travel quite a bit (I'm in and out of DTW almost every other week) and I've never heard of RideSkoot.
That said, it seems legit. You'll definitely want to take that or a cab. At Metro Airport you'll find a choice between Metro Car and Metro Cab. Take the Cab, it's way cheaper for basically the same service. Metro Car is the black sedan version and runs quite a bit more expensive.
Whatever you decide to do, do not try to take the bus, as they are a super big pain in the ass to navigate. I love Detroit, but its serious lack of public transportation is infuriating.
Do you know if many of your folks are going to be getting rental cars or relying on other transport?

With there being no direct flights from Manchester everyone seems to be on a different trip.
I'm taking my 10 year old nephew. Arriving in to DTW (via Paris) at 1pm or so on the Friday. 2 nights at the MotorCity before flying on to New York for a few days there (my nephew has just done a school project on New York so I wanted him to get there). As such I'm not getting a car. I can't have too many beers with having a 10 year old with me but by not driving at least I'll be able to have a few.
Some are on the same flights as the Team, flying from London arriving on the Thursday I think.
Somebody's booked to fly Manchester to Washington and then on to DTW.
Some are also going in to Toronto and driving down, taking in Niagara Falls on the way back, so they will have a rental car.
There's a few booked in to the MotorCity, some at the Hilton Garden Inn and then as it's cheaper some staying out near DTW and some staying in Dearborn.
It's hard to put a number on it but I don't think there will be that many supporters coming from Manchester. If I was taking a punt I'd say 50 tops. I suppose our numbers may be swelled a little by those out in the States who are Manchester United and/or FC United fans from afar.

I'm not too far from the airport, I'll see if I can get off work a bit early if you want to save some cash. Edit: If you land around 1, add 30 mins for deboarding, probably 30 mins for luggage... say I leave the office around 2:00 and get to the airport around 2:15 (gives you and the nephew time to freshen up a bit)? It'll be no problem to leave then for me. Just give the word and I'll make it work.

Some good info on here, thank you. We are coming from Manchester via NY (for 3 hours only) and should land at around 6.30pm. We are staying at the Hilton Gardens. The info about getting from the airport is particularly useful, taxi or Rideskoot seems the best bet by the looks of it.

having checked it's 1.34pm we are due to land so that sounds even better to make it work.
if I don't need to pay for the ride I'd be delighted to put whatever the cab fare would have been in to a kitty for beers before the match or put it in to whatever fund there is to help with the work on your new ground.
I'll stay in touch to see if we can sort it the week or so before.
thanks again.

We'll get the details out soon (think the next few weeks) once we get them sorted. this would be really great. if there's a few NGS with space in cars willing to swing by presumably the MotorCity on their way up to the Fowling Warehouse that would be much appreciated. as and when anything materialises let me know and I'll pick up with those at my end to see who could use a lift.
assuming that's what a 'ride-share deal' is, if it's like a mini-bus that would be cool as well.
cheers.

It's no problem. Always happy to help. I'll DM you my personal email, but yeah - when we get closer we can figure it out. For the time being I'll mark my work schedule that I'll be vanishing a bit earlier than usual on that day.

We don't have details on ride share yet. It could be as simple as pairing up FCUM supporters with NGS folks with big cars or as fancy as a bus. I'll let you know as soon as we have details. I'll DM you so we can exchange contact info so we don't have to keep checking back here all the time.
