Which teams/leagues do you watch and why? For the few people who don't know, outside of Detroit I am also 25% of all the Newcastle United fans present in the United States. Long-time fan of the magpies, who I've followed through relegation and back and likely I'll get to relive that again. I picked Newcastle due to a dislike of all the popular clubs at the time and wanting a northern English city. Outside of Newcastle I also follow Kendal Town FC (who I've sponsored in the past), a tier 8 team also from the north of England and who also dons the magpie colors. On the continent I follow FC Augsburg. They were a yo-yo team until recently, got into the Euros, and managed a draw against Liverpool. So huzzah.

I refuse to support any english sides as an argentine.
I am a pretty big fan of serie a. specifically i enjoy napoli. I have been a milan supporter for years, but they have been abysmal to watch lately.
as for argentine soccer. Boca juniors all day. my grandpa grew up in the shadow of la bombonera. and i also support Aldosivi, a team from Mar Del Plata where most of my family lives know, they move up and down between a and b.

my grandpa grew up in the shadow of la bombonera. That's really cool and is probably one of the coolest things about Keyworth is that it is really right smack in the middle of the community.

I refuse to support any english sides as an argentine. As an Englishman, I refuse to support any Argentine sides (fuck Maradona with a bloody fist) I support Birmingham City, mainly because I inherited it (no self-respecting person from Birmingham who cares about their own mental health would choose to support BFCF.) Other than that, now that we get Bundesliga games, I've taken to following Cologne. I spent a very brief time there this past summer and fell in love with the city, so I figured that if I had to pick a club, I'd choose one that I had some (if even fleeting) connection to.

I support Sporting Kansas City because Sporting Park is 30 minutes from my house. (And by default, their USL affiliate, Swope Park Rangers, who haven't played anything except exhibition matches yet.) In the Croatian Prva HNL I support Hajduk Split because my family migrated from Split and because the team is run the way a team should be run, supported by its fans. I'm a recovering Liverpool fan who now supports West Ham for no other reason than they seemed the best fit. I enjoy their supporter culture and the way the team plays, plus my main Croatian man, Split native and former Hajduk player, Slaven Bilić is their coach. To varying degrees I follow a bunch of European club teams, but I'd stop well short of calling myself a supporter of those teams. It's more a "bucket list of teams I'd like to see play one day". I'm obsessed with the Scottish National Team, even though they've been mostly terrible since I started following them in 1998 and will, most likely, continue to be terrible until I die.

I watch City, and the World Cup. That's about it.
I have a small amount of affection (not enough to watch them, though) for VFB Stuttgart because of family history. I'll pay attention to Arsenal just because they were my Football Manager 15 team for a long stretch of seasons before the save got corrupted.
If the French League 2 made it to the U.S., I'd watch Nîmes Olympique because I lived there for half a year. (RC Strasbourg, the club from the other half the year I spent in France, got relegated to the fourth tier a few years ago after going bankrupt.)

Makes me think about the Scottish league this year. The two teams I sort of follow there may end up having opposite results. Partick Thistle (Scottish Premiership) will likely be relegated to the Scottish Championship (tier two) and East Fife FC, currently in Scottish League Two (tier three) will probably be promoted to Scottish League One (tier three). If things work well for East Fife or poorly for Thistle next season, they could both be playing in the same tier. I can't tell if this is Ted's wet dream or his nightmare.

Portland Timbers fan here.
Also, funny story, I went to England a few years back and decided to get into the Premier League, bought a Manchester United beanie, and lost it the first night I wore it out. Now I support Liverpool.
Internationally, I root for Germany, because of my heritage and also their style of play.

Since I'm the worst, I support Manchester United. Why? The 2004 Worldwide Blockbuster movie Eurotrip. I was a typical "Soccer is Dumb" kind of sports fan then, and thought the scene at the Man United supporters bar was hillarious. The support was actually built for real during the 2009 UEFA Champions League. I was laid off and would wander to the nearby "Irish" pub to kill time, and ended up watching all the matches with a small group of old, crusty Chelsea and Gunners supporters. I wanted to be contrarian and already had my previous leanings told United, so that was that. Cheered them all the way to the final, and as much as I was able until NBC picked up the EPL after that.

Since we can watch Premier League now, I've picked up Liverpool for no particular reason. I was lucky and picked them about two weeks before they hired Klopp. It has been entertaining.

As I'm largely known as the guy who's written a buttload of words about the Fire, I'd say that of course I support the Chicago Fire - with the unfortunate codicil that the transparent, vibrant club I fell in love with is a memory, and a zombie manifestation with the same badge lives on in its stead.
